I'm Gemma Evans. I've been a television news journalist, presenter, reporter & producer for Sky, Channel 5 and ITV in the UK for over 13 years.
My broadcasting career has involved making telly in exciting locations; from the top of volcanoes to underground sewers (really) while meeting fascinating people with compelling stories and innovations along the way (see what I mean in this short video).
I also happen to be a major health geek, so it was only a matter of time before I combined my years of broadcasting with my wellness nerdiness, and healthHackers - my video and podcast series - was born.
As is often the case, there's a backstory to my fascination with optimising health.
I spent much of my late teens and 20s looking for ways to improve my health after dealing with issues that were believed to be linked to my nutrition and lifestyle.
I visited doctors, consultants, nutritionists, therapists and other practitioners in an attempt to put things right in a number of ways.
I had great success with some methods but not with others.
Over the years, I immersed myself in researching health optimisation; blood sugar regulation, anti-ageing, skincare, hormonal balance, exercise, mental well-being and various diets - with some experimenting on myself (although I wouldn't recommended following my tactics).
I was the presenter of Sky TV’s weekly tech show, ‘Swipe,’ for several years - and loved selecting great health-tech innovators to feature on the programme, sharing insights into futuristic ways of improving our bodies.
I read books, listened to health and biohacking podcasts, and contacted great thinkers, speakers and authors in the fields of health and lifestyle who were trying to help others feel well.
That's when I decided I wanted to create a video and podcast series devoted to the insights, knowledge, habits and techniques of pioneering people in health and well-being.
These are people who are doing things a bit differently, unique or unprecedented in some way.
I've come to find there's never one answer or one explanation that is right for everyone to achieve optimal physical or mental well-being. I'm still wading through new ideas everyday. But by getting inside the minds of those inspiring others on the health scene right now, you can at least see and hear different approaches and then make up your own mind.
